Turanga, the new central library in Christchurch. Designed by Architectus in association with Danish library specialists Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects.
The brief for the project came from the Design Manager from Southbase Construction. The brief explained the ground floor has large floor to ceiling frameless windows into the concrete panels and exterior soffits. Ambitec overtime time developed a special version “SuaveCrete” from its renowned standard Suave product. Furthermore, in collaboration with Soutbase staff, a methodology was developed for the offsite coating of pre-cut panels and the quick installation onsite on a rondo subframe.
The wraparound columns and the perfect line-up with the exterior soffits and negative details went without a glitch.
